You can only obtain legitimate work from home positions from brick and mortar companies.

You want to send your resume out to companies hiring for positions you are qualified for, but include in your resume that you have a home office and you wish to work remotely. Include how you have your home office set up and what equipment you already have in order for you to perform your job.

These jobs are just going to advertised as jobs, they would not promote them as “work at home” because they would hear from too many unqualified people.

First of all, before you want to do any SEO, you need to be focused on what you are doing and sorry but I don’t see that right now because what you have is stuff on news, sports, travel, boxing and photo.

You can have all these content but make sure you segregate them by putting them on different pages.

The most important thing are keywords! Make sure they are in your texts, in your titles, in your headers, and if you can, in your urls.
Keywords are the words for which you want your website to be found. Think about them carefully, and, also think from the perspective of your visitors. You may think they will search for a specific keyword, for instance BMW, but they may be looking more using another keyword, say, beamer. So, it is important to incorporate those “wrong” keywords too.

I’d recommend you get yourself a copy of Search Engine Optimisation for Dummies, because there’s a lot to it – far more than can be described here. Some key points are;

1). Research your keyword terms, as others have suggested – you can do it here http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ . This will give you the commonly searched for variants on your main word. The results you see are usually taken from Yahoo, so to estimate Google results, you need to multiply the results several times. Put these terms in your meta tags, i.e. The title and description tags etc. Also, get them into your main page text. If possible, put your most important keywords in a sub-heading because the search engines will give this greater importance than normal text. If possible, get the most important keyword or phrase into your URL as well because the search engine robots love that.
2). Post quality backlinks around the internet, in directories, and social networking sites, blogs etc. For the latter, take a peek at the page code and make sure they aren’t using the ‘nofollow’ attributes, because this will take away the usefulness of a link. In essence, the search engines rate the importance of a site largely on how much people are ‘talking about it’ across the web – and they are looking for backlinks. Another good tip is to use the most important word or words related to your site in the anchor text of any blog links posted (for example, if you sell horses, when posting a blog comment, in the ‘name’ box, write ‘horses’ and this will become the text that links to your website). This also gives you extra credence with the engines. AVOID RECIPROCAL LINKS – you get credit for links in, but penalised for links out. These days, there are so many places you can post your links across the web that reciprocals aren’t necessary. Also, avoid directories that want you to pay them, or say they will put you on a higher ranking page if you part with $10 etc. It’s an uneccessary waste of money.

I’m not sure about the terms and jargon, so it’s best that I represent them in a case. Say for example, ACME Advertising Agency expressed their interested to advertise in www.somewebsite.com. The advertisements is about GreasyBurger Co. and it will displayed on somewebsite.com for 15 days. Here’s the question.

Does GreasyBurger Co. advertisements on somewebsite.com consumes bandwidth and space on somewebsite.com’s server?

Are advertisements materials such as pictures, animation, etc stored in somewebsite.com’s server or is it stored in ACME’s server instead?

How does an owner of a website charge advertisers? Are advertisers charged by the number of days the ads will be displayed or something else?

Suppose if a somewebsite.com experienced a downtime or does not meet the requirements of the ACME in the duration of the ads being displayed, how does somewebsite.com make up to it? Are they suppose to refund or provide other forms of compensation?

How does ACME keep track of ads that are being displayed on somewebsite.com and how do they know if the the clicks come somewebsite.com?

There is no one answer. Except chances are the bandwidth is not coming from the somwebsite.com but a third party is hosting the advertising content.

There are many third party things like this: a few are:

Smaller website often have a third party selling the advertising space for them– but not all are that way.

Start with a ‘popping’ headline. Remember that people are browsing through multiple boring ads and you need to stand out to get noticed. Attract people with your selling points and use words with strong connotations in your favor. For example, people don’t simply say, ‘watches for sale’. Perhaps a good salesman would say, ‘High quality, precision watches at wholesale prices’ or ‘cheap designer watches’.

The ad needs to be short and sweet. Give them just a taste of the sweet stuff so that they will want to follow your link to your website. Just like the headline, give them power-packed words, but not too many of them. Give a BRIEF synopsis of why your product or service is what they want and what distinguishes it from the many other products and services listed in the classified ads.

You can post your ad in one of the ‘biggies’ like Craigslist and you can choose a niche market classified system. Always familiarize yourself with the rules of the system and follow them to the letter. Otherwise you may be dropped and you will lose this marketing avenue.

How can I go about building a web site that sends emails matching each customer to certain products?

The web site (call it XWZ.COM) should match each customer with products s/he is interested in, if/when these items become available. In detail:
1– Each subscriber is assigned a password that is sent to her personal email for security/ verification. Once subscribers receive their passwords and log on to XWZ, they identify their desired product/s and receive emails telling them to check their XWZ-inbox for product availability.
2– When they logon, and before allowed to the inbox, they are given subscription options.
3– Payments are processed automatically (credit cards. PayPal ..etc)
4– Once subscribers pay and reach their XYZ-inbox, they are told if the product is available. If product becomes available after a week or month, subscriber receive email.
What programming language, sever, database, firewall and other technologies should I use to get this without paying an arm? All technical or marketing tips or references to similar small sites are appreciated.

Depending on traffic and quality.

Java/JSP – High quality (less chance for bugs), expensive and scales well.

PHP – Messy, but there is a lot of stuff written in it already.

Perl – Not quite as bad as PHP, but still has some of the same problems.

Personally, I would try to use perl or consider using PHP for the web front end and perl for the email functions and any control panels when possible.

You might look around for some of the technology already out there, inspect the source code to determine how viable it is to modify it for your needs.

As far as the ecommerce, there are a lot of shopping carts out there, look for one that is simple (don’t go for “lots of features” go for “written well and can be modified) I sometimes see people go for whatever has the most toys, this is a mistake for this kind of software, you really want “easy to code in”.

You’ll probably want to interface with the product catalog to generate the email, so, your ecommerce package should have a nice table structure and/or good, object oriented code for accessing the products.

It goes without saying, once a package is modified, you can’t “upgrade” it.

It’s important to start off with a decent one that is relatively bug free (or at least, written so that you yourself can fix bugs as the crop up.)

This chain e-mail has been forwarded to us by readers many times over the past year. The most recent version adds a new angle, claiming that the amount of money taxpayers spend on illegal immigrants would be enough to “stimulate the economy.” But no matter the spin, the e-mail is rife with errors.

It also contains several red flags that should tip off readers that this is more bogus than believable. For one thing, the figures given don’t add up to a “whopping $338.3 billion dollars a year” spent on illegal immigrants in the U.S., as the e-mail claims.

The e-mail lists 14 claims about illegal immigrants, all of which were included in a longer list penned by anti-immigration activist Frosty Wooldridge and published on the conservative Web site NewswithViews.com on Jan. 22, 2007. Another NewswithViews columnist, Lynn Stuter, included Wooldridge’s list, with some updated links, in an article posted on April 15, 2008.

The source cited for at least nine of the items is either the conservative Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) or the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), both of which call for more restrictive immigration laws. CIS spokesman Bryan Griffith told us that he had never seen the e-mail but that he suspected something was out there because of occasional surges in traffic that forced him to rewrite Web pages. When told about the e-mail’s contents and conclusion of a $338.3 billion yearly cost, he responded that CIS “never said anything of the like and is not going to comment on a chain e-mail that is in no way scientific.”

The e-mail also continually blurs the important distinction between legal and illegal immigrants – a sign of sloppy and untrustworthy work.

If as the webmaster of this site I have made some fundamental error then it would be helpful to understand the problem that I have created causing this to happen. Our site currently has over 1000 unique visitors daily viewing over 2500 pages. In my web statistics you can see how many referrals we get from each search engine and before this problem Yahoo was an excellent referral site, however due to this problem we are now not getting any traffic from your search engines. I want to note that I noticed you were comparing Google & Yahoo! Search results positioning numbers. Usually it is “very” hard to optimize for all 3 major search engines. This is due to the fact that they all use different algorithms and factors to generate their results.

My first guess would be that your site was removed for some reason. I have a lot more questions that need answers before I can make any suggestions.

Per year, what % of average people need a lawyer for something in their lives & how many actually get one?

I’d like to find out, in general, how many people (or % per year) have what can be called a claim-worthy occurance in their lives that should be looked at by a lawyer. Well In order to keep from being audited unnecessarily, first of all the fact that you are running a business should be very clear meaning if your state has any kind of permits that are required, you need to get those. It would also help to have a DBA account with a bank. As far as within the home itself you can deduct things like a portion of the rent or mortgage and the utilities, this is based on a percentage of your home that your home office takes up. This space needs to be separate and not in use by any other members of your family. So unfortunately if you are running your business from the kitchen table you legally cannot deduct any of those expenses. But if you were to divide part of a room and again make sure members of the family do not use that part of the room designated as your office you can use it as a deduction.

I just started a home based business that will probably give me tons of deductions for my taxes this year. I also work full time at another job that takes the normal taxes for a single person (1 exemption). Is it safe to have them stop takaing out taxes from my payckeck so I can have that money available to me?

The answer depends on how many deductions you actually have for your home business. To delete your deductions from your regular pay check may cause you to owe taxes if your home biz deductions are not enough. (Early in you home biz, your deductions may not be enough to pay all your tax.)

I would leave the regular taxes as they are, complete a year with both. At the end of the year, if you owe NO TAX due to your home biz deductions, then you know you did the right thing.

If you owe taxes, then it’s a good thing that you paid you job taxes as you went along. (You won’t owe as much as you would have if you had deleted your deductions on your regular job)

If you get a REFUND, you will know that it is probably safe to have nothing taken out of your job income.

You should consult your tax preparer before you make a change.

Hi – You can “re-work” an article but you have to very careful when doing that so the search engines don’t pick it up as a duplicate article. If they do, you have done more damage than good.

How much time you allot to writing an article depends on an individuals writing skills, not a specific formula. The important thing is that you produce unique, engaging, professional content. That is what gets you optimum SEO. The expression, “Content is King” is absolutely true.

I use a program called Rapid Writer that will take an original article and rewrites unique variations of the article for you. If time is an issue, something like this is a life saver.

Search Engine Optimization suggestions please?

Hey, i just put up my site and i’m trying to get it optimized.
Thus far I’ve:
-created a blog
-submitted my xml sitemap to google
-made good title pages
-added my keywords to the pg.

As of now, google has indexed some of the pages on my site but not my home page yet.
Any suggestions of what else i can do for free?

One of the factors is the number of links that point to your site from other sites. If you post a contribution to a Google Groups forum (for example) and place your URL somewhere in the body, that will get the job done. The better the contribution, the longer the link will remain available because good posts get snatched up as content on other sites. It works on any social network that makes user posts visible in the public spectrum.

Do comments matter in search engine optimization?

When people comment on your blog (or any webpage), does that dilute the keyword density making your webpage less likely to show up in top search engine results?

Meaning, if I have a blog post that is 300 words long and 3% keyword density and I get a lot of comments that do not have my keywords in them, will that make me rank lower on the search engines?

Would it be worthwhile then to warn my visitors to leave keywords inside their comments?

Posting comments on related sites can be a great tactic for increasing your rankings. However, don’t abuse this and do not comment spam. Increased ranking is a side effect of commenting, not a goal. Make sure you are providing insight and something useful when commenting. People will know if you are comment spamming and it will not only hurt your reputation but I would imagine that the search engines will catch on soon and this could have some detrimental effects. As with most SEO tactics for increased ranking, you can’t fake it. If you are active on commenting and truly bring value to posts, then knowing these things and sticking to related posts/websites could really help you make the most of your work.
